The Unrest

The things we try to forget will haunt us forever

In 1989 fifteen year old Ben Bale was involved in an Ouija board prank that went horrifically wrong, killing Nicola Maddison, the schoolgirl he adored. Terrified of the consequences, the five schoolboys involved hid the body vowing to stay silent forever. She was never found.

20 years later, Ben is an embalmer at the local funeral directors. When an almost identical teenage girl is brought in for embalming Ben’s sense of reality quickly begins to falter. Unable to explain the increasingly strange occurrences unfolding around him he seeks medication from his doctor, but the apparent supernatural activity only becomes worse. Ben stays silent until Nicola’s spirit dramatically reveals itself in full form, threatening to seek revenge if she is not laid to rest. Ben has no other choice but to track down his four old class mates and convince them to confess to the police.

Not wanting to bring up their secret past and scared that Ben is losing his mind, the four other men beat him up as a warning to keep his mouth shut. Ben becomes obsessed with trying to capture the spirit on video to prove his own sanity. Meanwhile one by one his old class mates begin to die in seemingly tragic accidents. Ben is warned before each accident but can do nothing to convince the others of what will occur. With only Adam left alive Ben is forced to confess their secret to the police.

Nicola’s remains are finally laid to rest. Ben’s life is beginning to return to normal when he is arrested after the sudden and brutal murder of Adam, his last remaining school friend. The police, now aware of Ben’s mental instability, prove he has murdered all four men. The next morning Ben is found mysteriously hanging in his cell by an old school tie. Officers don’t know how it got there. The police find a video tape in Ben’s flat and play it. To their horror they watch Nicola's ghost leap aggressively out of Ben's body and into frame.
