Dread (incomplete)
Starring: Anthony Payne, Paul Hardy and Wendy Clemments
Adapted from a short story by Clive Barker, this psychological horror about a mans obsession with fear reallly facinated me. I shot the film in black and white to hide my poor lighting skills, using derelect buildings as locations that had little or no electricity. As the film was mostly set at night I could barely get an image on the camera, so I had to use a portable generator at the expense of the soundtrack (several scenes suffer from loud humming throughout).
Looking back on it now, it's clear I was experimenting a lot with composition and point of view which combined with the black and white grainy image and moments of accidental film noir type lighting, I managed to create some genuine moments of tension. Unfortunately due to my college commitments and the fact that the actors began to change their hairstyles, I eventually had to abandon the film, only ever being able to offer audiences a trailer of what might have been.
